Avian & Exotics
Dr. Ann Murata, DVM, Practice limited to Avian & Exotics
 |
Dr. Murata graduated from Colorado State University in 1989. She has had special interest in the treatment of Avian & Exotics animals since her internship and graduation. Dr. Murata is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Reptile & Amphibian Veterinarians, and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinary. Dr. Murata has volunteered her time with groups such as Pacific Wildlife and has been part of the South Bay veterinary community for over 12 years.

Dr. Ann Reed, DVM, MS,
Diplomate American College of Veterinary Radiology

Dr. Reed is a board certified Radiologist. She graduated from Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine and completed her residency of Radiology at the University of Missouri. Dr. Reed has over 10 years experience in the area of Radiology/Ultrasound diagnostics, and is available Monday through Friday for outpatient ultrasounds and consultations on radiographs.

Dr. Thomas Babcock, DVM

Dr. Babcock earned his DVM from Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. He went on to his internship in small animal emergency and critical care at Animal Emergency Referral Center.
After completing his internship he joined the Animal Emergency Referral Center as a staff veterinarian in 2007. He has a special interest in the advancing techniques of critical care. Dr. Babcock resides in the South Bay and enjoys motorcycles, golf, and travel.

Dr. Amy Brown, DVM

Dr. Brown received both her B.S. degree in Physiology and her veterinary degree from the University of California at Davis. After graduating in 2003, Dr. Brown moved to St. Louis where she worked at a small animal practice for four years. Dr. Brown moved back then to her home state of California in May of 2007, where she joined the Emergency department at the AERC. While not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and their hyperactive border collie Niko. Dr. Brown also enjoys cooking, hiking, camping, and spending time outdoors.

Dr. Hocutt, DVM

Dr. Hocutt graduated from Louisiana State University with a degree in Veterinary Medicine in 2006. Dr. Hocutt then went on to complete a small animal medicine and surgery rotating internship at the Animal Surgical and Emergency Center in West L.A. After completion of her internship, she worked at emergency clinics in the southern California area. Dr. Hocutt joined the Animal Emergency and Referral center as a staff doctor in 2007. In her spare time, Dr. Hocutt enjoys spending time with her family (including her 3 cats), watching movies and walking on the beach.

Dr. Jonnie Quantz, DVM, Medical Director

Dr. Quantz graduated from Ohio State University and has over 25 years experience in Emergency and Critical Care in the Southern California area. She completed a residency in Emergency Critical Care in 2007. Dr. Quantz founded Animal Emergency Referral Center in May of 2000 to provide the community with a 24 hour Emergency/Critical Care facility. Over the years, AERC has expanded with the addition of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology/Ultrasound and Avian/Exotic services.

Dr. Carolyn E. Briggs, DVM, DACVIM

Carolyn Briggs, DVM, Dipl ACVIM, received her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in her native Canada at the Ontario Veterinary College in 1995. After graduation, Dr. Briggs completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Prince Edward Island. She completed her residency in small animal internal medicine at the University of California Davis and became a board certified Diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine in 2000.
She joined the Animal Emergency Referral Center and established the internal medicine department in 2003. Her expertise includes but is not limited to endocrinology, hematology, immunology, infectious disease, gastroenterology, and nephrology.
Dr. Briggs and her family reside in Orange County, California with their bulldog “Lola” and their cat “Tommy”.

Dr. Macon Miles, DVM, DACVIM

Macon Miles, DVM, Dipl ACVIM received his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia in 1999. Following veterinary school Dr. Miles completed a rotating internship in small animal internal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University. Dr. Miles then went into general small practice in Southern California for 3 years. He then completed his residency in small animal internal medicine at VCA All Care Animal Referral Center in 2006.
He joined Animal Emergency Referral Center in November of 2006. He became board certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 2008. His expertise includes medical oncology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, nephrology and immunology.
Dr. Miles resides with his family in Redondo Beach, California with their pug Cousin Sarah.

Howard Fischer-DVM/DACVS

Dr. Howard Fischer is
a Diplomate of the American college of
Veterinary Surgeons, Small Animal Surgery.
After graduation from veterinary school,
Dr. Fischer worked in private practice
as a veterinarian and medical director/owner
for over 10 years in Florida. Dr. Fischer’s
love of surgery brought him back to his
native Southern California where he completed
a three year surgical residency at a large
specialty referral center.
After completing his residency he worked
in private practice and as a mobile surgeon
to over 50 veterinary hospitals in Los
Angeles and Orange County for over 4½
years before joining the Animal Emergency
Referral Center as Chief of Surgery in
2008. Dr. Fischer and his family reside
in Huntington Beach, California.
